Wrapping up the season

First of all, I’d like to apologize for the lack of blog updates. Things have been crazy this season! It’s just starting to slow down and ease into the winter off-season, which is nice because this season has been my busiest yet. I have done tons of traveling, contests and demos. Regardless, I am not looking forward to the water cooling down.

Let me catch you up where I left off. I entered my contest season strong with a 3rd place finish at the wakegames in Orlando at OWC but, this season seemed to be either hot or cold for me. I struggled at the Pro Tour events and only made it to one final out of the 5 stops. I began to think my contest season was going to be a throw away year.

That all changed when I came in 2nd place at the Brazil stop in the World Series. I realized there were a lot of events left in the year and I could actually turn my season around for the better. I was right. I ended up winning not only my first Pro Men’s National title, but also my first contest as a professional wakeboarder. Winning the National title was one of the happiest times of my life, it was almost surreal!

Straight from my win at Nationals, JD Webb and I headed to Slovenia. Redbull was putting on another sport altering event called Redbull Upstream. It was a unique rail event in a river full of raging rapids. We were towed by a winch upstream and had to hit various rails, kickers and the natural river terrain: rocks. I was skeptical at first because I’d never seen anything like this. It took JD and I a long time to get use to everything; it was a type of riding that neither of us had experienced. After a few days of practice, we got the hang of it. I ended up taking home first place; JD came in 3rd. It was a great event and I’m looking forward to seeing what they’ve got for us next year. Check out more at redbullupstream.com.

As the contest season was coming to an end, I had much more time at home to relax and train, which was a nice break for me. However, there were still a few events going on. All the boys and I spent time in the Ronix booth at surf expo. It was exciting for me because it was the first time my new 2010 Ronix Bill board and Frank boot were released to the public. We got extremely positive feed back!

After expo, there was the world premiere of the Parks Bonifay documentary. Redbull had a huge showing in Orlando at the Hard Rock followed by another one in California. It was such a great honor to attend both premieres. I have always looked up to Parks so it was huge for me to stand next to him and support him through this amazing time in his life.

That’s basically it for now; I’m home for a while so you can definitely catch me at the cable! Hopefully it doesn’t get too cold too soon, I hate cold water.
